There are plenty of restaurants in London where you can spend a small fortune on steak, but every now and then you come across somewhere that reminds you great food doesn’t always have to come with an eye-watering bill.

For me, that’s Flat Iron.

It’s one of those places I find myself returning to time and time again because I know exactly what I’m going to get: consistently good food, generous portions and excellent value for money.

The steaks are cooked beautifully, the menu is uncomplicated and everything feels thoughtfully done. Whether you’re stopping in for a relaxed lunch or catching up with friends after work, it manages to feel both casual and considered.

One of my favourite touches actually arrives before you’ve even ordered. Instead of bread, you’re greeted with warm popcorn to nibble on while you decide what you’d like. It’s a simple idea, but as someone who absolutely loves popcorn, it’s something I genuinely look forward to every visit.

Then, just when you think the experience is over, Flat Iron adds another little surprise.

When you pay your bill, you’re handed a miniature meat cleaver-shaped token. On your way out, you exchange it for one of their delicious soft-serve ice creams, with the option to add chocolate flakes. It’s a small gesture, but it’s these thoughtful details that make the experience memorable.

Of course, the real star of the show is the steak itself.

The menu offers a great selection of cuts and sides without becoming overwhelming, and everything I’ve tried has been full of flavour. Better still, the prices remain refreshingly reasonable, making it somewhere you can enjoy more than just special occasions.

In a city full of expensive dining experiences, Flat Iron proves that quality, atmosphere and value can still exist together.

If you’re looking for a dependable steak restaurant that delivers every time, this is one I’d happily recommend.
